Extra Security in Place at Bradford High School Following Gun Seizure

(WGTD)---A loaded gun was found on a Bradford High School student Wednesday.

Authorities credit a tipster with drawing attention to the 16 year-old boy as he arrived at school Wednesday morning. He was confronted by administrators and a school resource officer who conducted a search.

According to news releases from police and the district, the student resisted, triggering a call for back-ups and a decision to briefly put the school under a "hold."

The boy is expected to face "multiple" criminal charges, according to police.

It wasn't immediately known whether the incident is somehow related to the shooting death last week of another 16 year-old Bradford student. Isiah Cooper had been with other teens who had purportedly gone to a Library Park neighborhood to buy a gun. Two teens were charged Tuesday with 1st Degree Intentional Homicide, attempted homicide and robbery.

The gun seizure incident prompted extra security at the school Wednesday.

An ad-hoc district committee has been studying security issues for over a year.

One of its recommendations is to adopt a new policy on student searches and the use of metal detectors in schools.

Under the proposed policy, walk-through metal detectors and the use of metal-detecting "wands" may be used when there is a "reasonable suspicion" of a violation of district policy or the law, or when a random screening of all students is conducted.

A district committee will review the proposal Thursday evening.
