(WGTD)---Getting guns out of the hands of convicted felons is a top priority of area law enforcement. Four new cases of possession of a firearm by a felon were filed in Racine and Kenosha courts Monday.
According to a review of the complaints, a 26-year-old Racine man who was pulled over for speeding was found to have a gun under his seat. The officer became suspicious after seeing a loaded extended magazine on the passenger seat.
Another defendant in a separate case, a 20-year-old Racine man, was found to have a gun in his backpack. He raised suspicions after he took off running from officers who at least initially were more interested in his companion for which a warrant had been issued.
In Kenosha, a dispute at a downtown bar led to police wanting to question a 30-year-old man. After a short foot chase and tussle, the man was detained and was found to have a gun in his pant leg.
Also in Kenosha over the weekend, a loaded gun was found under the driver’s seat of a car being driven by a 44-year-old man who’d been pulled over for a suspected traffic violation. Officers decided to search the vehicle after smelling marijuana.
And in yet another weapons case, a 36-year-old man is facing a count of discharging a firearm within 100 yards of a building. The man fired a shotgun near St. James Cemetery off of Sheridan Rd. to purportedly scare off a wild animal. At least that’s what he told police after concerned neighbors called 911.
