Have Some Gateway Credits But No Diploma? GTC Could be Calling

Jan. 15, 2023 noon

(WGTD)---Gateway Technical College plans to inquire whether any of the thousands of former Gateway students who left the school in the past 20 years without earning either a one-year-technical diploma or a two-year associate degree have an interest in returning.

With the help of a $200,000 grant, Gateway has hired a third-party vendor to try to contact at least some of the 23,000 former students who are on list.

The goal is to lure back at least several hundred of them with new programming, support services and financial aid, according to Stacy Riley, Gateway’s student services and enrollment management vice-president. "There are 39 million Americans as of July 2020, according to the National Student Clearinghouse, that have some college but no degree," Riley said. "And of those, 89% are interested in returning to college."

The ultimate goals are to improve residents' standard of living and meet the needs of employers, she said.
