Housing Market Remains Hot

May 3, 2026 8:15p

(WGTD)---Demand for housing remains high across the area, judging from upcoming agendas for plan commissions in the city of Kenosha and the villages of Somers and Pleasant Prairie.

In Pleasant Prairie Monday night, commissioners will review plans for the second phase of Highland Estates, a development off of Cooper Rd. that once fully built is expected to include over 400 single family lots and 250 town homes and condos. The phase that's up for review includes 90 single family lots.

Kenosha's Plan Commission later this week will review a conditional use permit for 336 apartments to be built south of 60th St. and west of Green Bay Rd. Also up for consideration will be 144 apartments to be built northwest of the former Shopko store off of 52nd St.

Next week, the Somers Plan Commission will take a look at revised plans for 200 apartments for a site north of County 'E' and west of Sheridan Rd. The developer's first version ran into citizen opposition.

The high demand for rental units was highlighted another way in a report in the Kenosha News over the weekend. Only one vacant unit exists in a 190-unit town home development in Somers that was completed just last year. Another 136 town homes in the Savannah at Pike Creek development off of Green Bay Road and 'L' are currently under construction.
