The company that's buying Mt. Pleasant-based InSinkErator says the food waste disposal leader will operate as a separate business unit and will remain in Mt. Pleasant. Michigan-based Whirlpool Corp. announced the $3 billion, all-cash purchase Monday. InSinkErator has been owned by Emerson Electric for over 50 years. Emerson said it's selling InSinkErator because it's in the process of creating a "higher growth, more diversified and cohesive" portfolio. InSinkErator employees almost 1,400 people in the area. The company opened a new $34 million headquarters and technology lab in Mt. Pleasant back in 2018.

Bond for a 19-year-old Racine man who's accused along with another teen of firing a gun at a group of mourners in Graceland Cemetery last June was set Monday at $1 million. Lamarion Blair is facing 49 separate counts, most of them for endangering safety and bail jumping. The criminal complaint filed Monday confirms the incident was gang-related, through and through, and it also details a second, lesser known shooting incident that occurred ten minutes later in the 2800 blk. of Wright Ave. Blair and his alleged accomplice purportedly hid for a time in an alley there. The case against the pair is based on circumstantial evidence that includes fingerprints and GPS data from the getaway vehicle. The complaint says Blair was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Las Vegas after flying there with his girlfriend.
