Kenosha Judge Rejects Plea Bargain; Charges Upcoming in a Motorcycle Crash; Alleged Courthouse Groper Faces a New Charge

From WGTD News:

A Salem Lakes man whose felony murder charge was dropped in a plea bargain got a much harsher sentence than he was expecting. 32 year-old Anthony Kanabay had been expecting probation with time served. Instead, Judge Jodi Meier handed down a sentence of two years in prison and one year in the county jail on bail jumping and drug charges. Time served was applied to a battery conviction. Kanabay was originally facing a murder charge stemming from a fight in which a friend of his--Dustin Hogan--died. But a medical expert said he couldn't be sure whether the death was due to a punch or from Hogan hitting his head on a table. Meier said she was rejecting the plea bargain because of Kanabay's extensive criminal past, despite his expressions of remorse and a pledge to turn his life around.

A 66 year-old Kenosha man is expected to be charged with both homicide and injury by use of an intoxicated vehicle in a Memorial Day accident in Kenosha that killed a motorcyclist and injured another. Archie Heath, Sr. is being held in the Kenosha County Jail awaiting his initial court appearance. The crash occurred Monday evening when Heath's vehicle purportedly struck the cycle, killing a 38 year-old Kenosha woman and critically injuring a 41 year-old man.

A 17 year-old Racine boy awaiting trial on a charge of groping a Racine courthouse employee last year was charged yesterday with a similar assault that occurred on Saturday. Joshua Meeks had been under house arrest. But after Saturday's alleged incident near his home in the 800 block of Villa St. a bond of $10,000 was set. According to the criminal complaint, Meeks touched a woman who'd been pushing a stroller with two babies. Several subjects detained Meeks before police arrived.
