(WGTD)---Later this year, the public will have an opportunity to take behind-the-scenes looks at dozens of buildings in the Kenosha area.
Patterned after similar events in Chicago and Milwaukee, "Keys to Kenosha" will be held Saturday, Nov. 7th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Doors will swing open at over 50 historic, cultural, educational, governmental and commercial locations. The line-up includes the Kenosha County Courthouse, the soon-to-open Kenosha County Human Services Building on 52nd St., museums, libraries, churches, downtown hotels, fire stations, the U.S. Coast Guard station, Hawthorn Hollow Nature Sanctuary and many other sites.
A launch event was held Friday on the steps of Simmons Library that featured Kenosha Mayor Dave Bogdala, Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman, Kenosha Public Library Director Sarah Townsend, Visit Kenosha President Dennis DuChene and Jeff Bridleman, a principal with Partners in Design Architects. 'Partners', Snap-on, Jockey International and Uline are the event's primary sponsors.
The self-guided tours are free, and participants can pick and choose which locations to visit.
"Kenosha is a thriving community with a proud history, distinctive architecture and a story to tell on every block," Bogdala said in a news release. "We're thrilled to welcome everyone to experience our city in a new and meaningful way."
While new sites will be added, a current list of locations is available here.
