(WGTD)---Kenosha Unified is still dealing with the after effects of September’s cyber security incident that led to the district shutting down online services as a precaution.

In recent days, a letter was sent to district employees, indicating that the incident involved ransomware.

The letter told employees that their names and social security numbers may have been accessed, but that investigators aren’t aware of any misuse of personal information.

The district is offering a free identity theft monitoring service for a year to employees who are interested in signing up. KUSD is also recommending that employees place a temporary ‘fraud alert’ on their credit files.

The district apologized for the inconvenience, and said it has implemented additional security procedures.
