(WGTD)---Kenosha Unified is tired of being blamed for high property taxes.
Turns out that a good chunk of the district's $95 million tax levy doesn't go to Kenosha Unified after all.
According to KUSD documents, $7.5 million went to fund private schools through the voucher program. $1.7 million went directly to independent charter school-related levy impacts.
KUSD would like property taxpayers to be aware of those facts when they open up their next property tax bill later this year.
Up for consideration at Tuesday's night school board meeting is a resolution that, if passed, would ask the district's three municipalities that send out those bills--the City of Kenosha, Pleasant Prairie and Somers--to make that clarification.
Tuesday night's meeting is also expected to include a discussion on whether to ask voters in November to allow the district to exceed state-mandated levy limits.
