(WGTD)---The City of Racine is receiving a $40 million infusion into its ongoing program to replace lead water pipes from the street into homes and businesses.
Federal funding is being funneled to Racine and 28 other communities from the state DNR to help ensure that Wisconsinites have access to water that’s lead-free.
More than 2,000 lead lines have been replaced in Racine since the initiative began in 2023.
The state’s $40 million allocation to Racine is expected to make a big dent in the approximately 10,650 lines that have yet to be replaced.
There’s more information about the project on the city’s website.
In Kenosha, grant money received this year was expected to have financed the replacement of some 900 lead laterals this year alone.
