Man Who Allegedly Had a Role in Kenosha Shooting Scheduled for Trial

The Kenosha man who allegedly supplied the gun that was used to kill another was scheduled for arraignment following a preliminary hearing Friday morning.

Derrick Matthews is accused of aiding his sister, Donna Matthews, in the July 4th shooting of Michael Gayan. His decomposed body was found weeks after he died.

In court Friday, testimony from Police Det.Vicente Correa indicated that Donna Matthews may have entered Gayan's empty home between 7:30 and 8 on the night of the 4th, hid until his return, then sprung the trap and fired the fatal shots. Correa was relaying the scenario that was provided to police by Derrick Matthews during his interrogation.

Matthews reported that he received a message from his sister almost immediately after the municipal fireworks ended, asking to meet.

According to Correa, Derrick Matthews said the pair walked around the downtown area before heading to Kemper Center and throwing the bullet casings into the lake. The murder weapon was purportedly wiped clean then given to Derrick Matthews' ex-wife.

Under cross examination, Correa said there was no sign of a struggle in Gayan's home.

Donna Matthews had been involved in an abusive relationship with the shooting victim.

She's said to be enroute to Kenosha via a U-S Marshall's bus after having waived extradition. She'd been picked up in the Seattle area.

Det. Correa was the only witness who testified Friday at Derrick Matthews' preliminary hearing.

Both siblings are charged with Party to the Crime of 1st Degree Intentional homicide.
