(WGTD)---The City of Kenosha appears ready to move forward with plans to demolish four, former Kenosha Unified school buildings. Three of the four were closed when the district downsized.
At a meeting Monday night, the city’s Public Works committee will consider awarding a $542,000 contract to K-R Contractors to take down the former Lincoln Elementary building.
New Berlin Grading is in line to receive a $2 million contract to demolish the former McKinley Middle and Elementary School buildings, and the former Washington Middle School.
The McKinley site has been discussed as a location for a park and new single-family homes.
Part of the site where Lincoln Elementary now sits will be used for additional parking for the LakeView K-8 school right across the street.
The city gained control of the four properties in a land swap with the school district following its downsizing.
The newest of the four buildings--McKinley Elementary--is 75 years old. The rest are around 100 years old.
