New COVID Delay in Racine Theatre Guild's Performance Lineup

(WGTD)---The Racine Theatre Guild's schedule of performances has been pushed back again.

The community theater announced Wednesday that the rescheduled run of "Mamma Mia!" has been canceled due to COVID. The musical's four-week rescheduled run was to have begun in mid-May.

According to a news release, theater managers realized that beginning rehearsals this month wasn't practical. Neither was requiring performers to wear masks. In addition, if current social distance requirements would be in effect when the show opens in May, would limit audience size to 39% of theater capacity.

Doug Instenes, RTG managing and artistic director, said the hope is to produce smaller scale programming this summer, and fully reopen later this year.

Ticket sales cover 70% of the Guild's operating budget. They've been kept afloat during the pandemic by donations from the community, along with loans and grants from the government. "RTG has been through difficult times before and been able to come out on the other side thanks to the support of our volunteers, audiences, and community," Instenes said. "We are extremely grateful to have their support and cannot wait to welcome everyone back when the times comes," he said.

More information on tickets and refunds is available on the RTG website.
