New Life Ahead for Building That Once Housed Andrea's Gifts

(WGTD)---The soda fountain stays along with the gifts and tobacco.

The store at 60th St. and 24th Ave. that featured all three and more for decades under the name, “Andrea’s Gifts”, is scheduled to reopen later this year.

Shortly after the family business closed in 2021, Jockey International announced that it planned to buy the building from the family and reopen the store with a similar motif and community spirit. Jockey’s headquarters is located nearly kitty-corner to the building.

Following an appearance at UW-Parkside last week, Jockey President Mark Fedyk was asked about the new store. “You’ll see a lot of similarities with a few differences,” he said.

One new attraction: Local artisans and crafts people will be able to sell their creations in the store, according to Fedyk.

Fedky says a general manager has already been hired, and Jockey is in the process of filling the rest of the positions.

The new store has been christened, “Cooper’s Uptown,” in honor of Jockey’s founder, the Rev. Samuel Cooper.

A sign already is hanging on the side of the building.
