One Dead, Four Injured: Shootings Occurred on a Troubled Block

July 5, 2022 4p

(WGTD)---A shooting incident in Kenosha's Uptown area that left one person dead and four others injured is just the latest in a string of troubling incidents that have occurred over the years, according to neighbors.

Police were called to 6321 25th Ave. at about 10:20 Monday evening and were confronted with a chaotic scene and "obvious" evidence of multiple gunshots having been fired, according to a police department news release. Of the four that were injured, two were transferred to a Milwaukee hospital.

A neighbor--who asked that his name not be used--said he's complained for years about the house in question and another across the street. "It's all related to the same house," he said. "It's a constant stream of people coming in and out--open air drug dealing." Shots fired cases, police pursuits and bicycle thefts are also part of the neighborhood scene.

Complaints to the landlord of the house in question fell on deaf ears, he said.

The man said he's frustrated because he keeps complaining but nothing happens. "Where are the police in the neighborhood, on foot or on patrol. Talking to neighbors. Making a police presence before the shooting," he said.

Police department spokesman Lt. Joseph Nosalik said the city gets numerous complaints about houses in the city that are focal points for illicit activities. But that there are only so many resources to go around.

He said the 6300 blk. of 25th Ave. has been on the list.

The Aug. 9th primary ballot includes a referendum question that if approved would authorize the city to exceed state-mandated levy limits for the purpose of hiring.10 additional police officers and six additional firefighters.

6321 25th Ave. is just two doors down from the Uptown Library.
