The Kenosha County Courthouse is going to be a busy place Monday.
Several hundred potential jurors have been summoned because two murder trials are expected to get underway.
Donna Matthews is charged with 1st Degree Intentional Homicide in the shooting death of her ex-boyfriend, while Daniel Tate is facing an identical charge in the strangulation death of Olivia Mackay.
In the latter, the victim and defendant met online. The death occurred on the beach near Pennoyer Park. Then Tate—with the help of a co-defendant—allegedly disposed of the body by dumping it in some brush in Mt. Pleasant.
In the other case, Matthews is using the battered woman defense. Her attorneys contend that Matthews was in a frame of mind in which she felt she had no choice but to kill the victim, Michael Gayan. That trial is expected to last between two and three weeks.
