(WGTD)---The legacy of a Kenosha social worker who had an oversized impact on children and families for several decades was noted and honored this week at the Kenosha Boys and Girls Club.
Dennis Bedford, who died last month at the age of 74, started out as a county social worker, then moved to the Boys and Girls Club to become that facility’s Youth Empowerment Director for Outreach & Schools.
At a ceremony held in the Boys and Girls Club fieldhouse, Club Executive Director Tara Panasewicz unveiled a plaque in Bedford’s honor She was the lead-off speaker in remembering Dennis. "He has positively impacted generations of youth helping to shape their futures with his steady presence, wise counsel and deep belief in every young person's potential," she said. "He has always believed that every child has the potential to succeed when they are supported by at least one caring and competent adult."
Former Shalom Center Director Tamarra Coleman was Bedford’s cousin. "Dennis just didn't walk through life he served through it. He saw needs and met them. He didn't wait for someone else to step up he was that someone," Coleman said. "He gave time, talent and heart quietly, consistently and without seeking applause."
Other speakers included State Senator Bob Wirch, Ardis Mahone Mosley, Lloyd Lewin, Gary Vargas, Kenosha Mayor Dave Bogdala and Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman.
