(WGTD)---We Energies says crews are expected to work into the weekend to restore power to everyone who lost it as a result of Thursday's storms.
Much of the damage was caused by a suspected tornado that seemed to materialize in the area of state highways 142 and 45 and move northeast.
A total of 70 utility poles were either downed or damaged, according to We Energies spokesperson Amy Jahns. Three miles of cable are in the process of being restrung, she said.
Sections of both highways remain closed.
As of noon, just under 7,000 We Energies customers within the City of Kenosha remained without power, down from a peak of over 16,000.
Some people who survived Thursday night's storm with power lost it at mid-morning Friday and weren't expected to get it back until mid-afternoon. Jahns couldn't say for sure what had happened.
Workers contracted by We Energies are working alongside company employees to repair the damage. At mid-morning, Jahns said arrangements were being made to call in crews from other utilities.
Meanwhile, the City of Kenosha is instructing residents with tree limbs, brush and other storm-related debris to contact the Public Works Department for curbside pickup. The number to call is 262-653-4050.
