Racine Homicide Victim Allegedly Shot by Cousin; Suspect Charged in an I-94 Frontage Rd. Shooting in Caledonia

A dispute between cousins allegedly led to the fatal shooting that occurred In Racine last week in the 14-hundred block of Marquette. 27-year-old Terrence Gardner was charged Tuesday with 1st Degree Intentional Homicide. The victim was identified by police as 36-year-old Brian Egerson, who, according to the criminal complaint, is Gardner’s cousin. Gardner’s mother told investigators that she witnessed an angry exchange between her son and the victim, and that the victim, Egerson, had thrown a punch at her son before the shot was fired. Egerson was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man has been charged in connection with the shooting death on an I-94 frontage road in Caledonia in April. Jerome Howell, Jr. of Milwaukee is facing counts of felony murder and attempted armed robbery. According to the criminal complaint, the man who was fatally shot and his associates had set up a fake sale of tools. A meeting place was established near a frontage road gas station. The phony seller wound up dead. A second man had previously been charged for allegedly driving Howell to Chicago.

A 19-year-old man died in an early-morning crash Tuesday near Twin Lakes. According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, the driver missed a curve on County ‘P’ and went off the road. The car struck a power pole, continued on through a farm field and struck several trees. He was ejected. The accident happened just after six Tuesday morning.

A former staff member of a Racine charter school who was convicted of a series of sexual assaults involving students has avoided prison but will serve time in jail. 37-year-old Jamill Sanders was a behavioral interventionalist at the 21st Century Preparatory School. The school serves students in 4K through 8th grade and operates under the authority of UW-Parkside and the UW Board of Regents. According to the complaint, Sanders allegedly had inappropriate contact with a pair of 12-year-old girls and a 14-year-old girl. Two other students told investigators that Sanders called them names with sexual references. Sanders pleaded no contest and was given a nine-month jail sentence Monday by Judge Jon Fredrickson. A prison sentence was stayed.

A weekend incident that involved an emergency landing at the Kenosha Regional Airport by a Flight For Life helicopter was prompted by a faulty warning light. According to information gathered by Kenosha police, the warning light came on as the crew was flying a patient to a Milwaukee area hospital. Out of caution, the pilot decided to land rather than continue on. The patient was transferred to a Somers rescue squad and then was driven to Milwaukee instead.
