Raymond Man and Dog Rescued From Pond

(WGTD)---A near-drowning Sunday afternoon in a backyard pond in Raymond.

An elderly woman’s two dogs ran out on thin ice chasing geese. Both fell in. One was able to make it to shore safely but the other couldn’t get out.

The woman sought help from a 58-year-old neighbor.

He made the decision to attempt a rescue.

About 50 ft. from shore, the man broke through.

According to a news release from the Racine County Sheriff’s Dept., deputies and a state trooper arrived within minutes and threw out a life safety rope. The exhausted man was pulled to shore along with the dog. They were then lifted out of the water by two members of the county’s dive team.

The whole process once officers arrived on scene lasted about three minutes, according to the department.

The release says the man was taken to the hospital with lacerations and a possible case of hypothermia, although he's expected to make a full recovery.

The dog warmed up in a car. "After warming up, Bo (the dog) appeared to be ok as he was licking deputies and wanting their attention," the department said.

All of the department's patrol cars carry the type of life safety rope that was used in Sunday's rescue.
