Referendum Discussion on KSB Agenda

Apr. 27, 2026 9:10p; Update--the board voted unanimously to schedule discussions

(WGTD)---The Kenosha School Board is expected to consider renewing its request to voters to approve property tax levies that exceed state limits.

In a briefing prepared in advance of Tuesday night's board meeting, KUSD administration says the district is looking at an $8.7 million deficit for the next budget period, even without any potential salary increases figured in.

The district isn't holding out much hope that negotiations between Gov. Evers and the Republicans who control the state legislature over additional K-12 state aid and property tax relief will pan out.

Administration is recommending that the school board consider scheduling a referendum in November.

An operational referendum on the Feb. 2025 ballot that would've resulted in an additional $23 million in each of the next five years failed by an eight-point margin.
