(WGTD)---Republican Gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels said Saturday that the momentum is on his side in his race against Democratic Gov. Tony Evers.
Michels and U.S. Senator Ron Johnson headlined a rally in a side room at a Mt. Pleasant bowling alley.
The barbs were strong and the responses from the crowd loud among the 300 or so people who packed into the room.
Michels said he had just received favorable polling numbers. "It's looking pretty good this Tuesday--we're going to replace Gov. Evers," Michels told the cheering crowd.
He identified election integrity and education reform as two of the top issues. Democrats translate those agenda items as being attacks on both democracy and public education.
Johnson, who's seeking re-election against a challenge from Democrat Mandela Barnes, called for unity. "President Biden laid out a goal of healing and unifying this nation, but he's done the exact opposite," Johnson said. "Somebody has got to the adult in thiis room and it's got to be us," he said. "We need to strengthen this country by unifying, healing and saving it."
Barnes is scheduled to address supporters at a rally in Kenosha Sunday evening.
Also in attendance at the Republican rally Saturday was Assembly Speaker Robin Vos who's facing an unusual challenge in the form of write-in candidates from both the left and right. Supporters of the conservative challenger, Adam Steen, made their presence known in the parking lot. A pickup with a Steen sign fastened to the bed drove around the lot.
