(WGTD)---Tuesday's Spring Primary Election ballot in the WGTD listening area is light.
The highlight is a six-way primary for two seats on the Kenosha School Board. The top two vote-getters will advance to the April general election. The list includes the two incumbents, Yolanda Adams and Bob Tierney.
The four challengers are Robin Cullen, Jeremy Oster, Pat Juliana and Jack Lira. Cullen ran unsuccessfully for school board last year. Oster is a senior at Indian Trail High School. Juliana is a former City of Kenosha alderman who now lives in Somers and serves as an alternate member of the plan commission there. Lira is a parent who’s making his first foray into school board politics.
The campaign has turned some heads in part because of an endorsement and a non-endorsement by the Kenosha Education Association’s political arm. The teachers’ union endorsed Tierney, a conservative, but failed to support Adams, the other incumbent in the race. Her candidacy had received support from the K-E-A in the past, but as of late Adams and the current union president have traded barbs.
In Racine, there’s a primary for the city council seat currently held by Tyler Townsend, who was appointed to the post following the death of Mollie Jones. In addition to Townsend, three challengers are on the ballot in Tuesday's primary. They are Alyson Weiss, Renisha Murillo and Rosalind Thomas.
In the East Troy Community School District, four candidates are on the ballot to replace Steve Lambrechts, who declined to seek re-election.
