(WGTD)---Even as new outages pop up, We Energies crews are out in the field trying to restore power that's been lost due to Wednesday's ice storm.
As of 10:15 Wednesday evening, over 15,000 customers were without power in Racine County and another nearly 11,000 customers were affected in Kenosha County. This despite the fact that crews already restored power to nearly 6,000 customers since the storm moved in early Wednesday.
"We are finding extreme ice covering trees and branches and that is coming into contact with our power lines," said We Energies spokesman Brendan Conway. "Some of our equipment is also coated in ice causing outages."
Conway said Wednesday evening that all available crews are out, including contractors. "Will be bringing in fresh crews overnight and into the early morning hours. We will work nonstop until power is restored to all customers," he said.
Conway encourages customers to report their outage through the We Energies app, online or by phoning.
He also reminds people to stay at least 25 feet away from any downed lines and report them to the power company or local police right away.
