Arrest in Gayan Homicide

Kenosha---An arrest has been made in the shooting death of Michael Gayan, the 51 year-old man whose decomposed body was discovered in his east side home almost a week ago.

55 year-old Derrick Matthews is expected to be charged with Party to the Crime of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide.

Matthews appeared in court Monday. Bond was set at $500,000.

Deputy District Attorney Mike Graveley said Matthews gave police a statement, purportedly confessing that he had a hand in the murder.

According to Graveley, Matthews said he provided a gun to the person who eventually shot Gayan, and also admitted to giving the individual rides to and from Gayan's home. But Matthews denied being present for the shooting.

According to Facebook posts and court records, Gayan had a stormy relationship with a woman that ended this past spring, with Gayan posting unflattering photos of her and displaying screen shots of lewd text messages that the two had exchanged.

Graveley declined to comment Monday on if and when charges would be filed against other individuals.
