(WGTD)---The child porn case against Union Grove High School district administrator Thomas Johnson has some unusual twists and turns.
For one thing, investigators who examined Johnson's two phones came up with just two photos of what appear to be child pornography, amidst numerous images of adult porn. In court Thursday, Johnson's attorney, Pat Cafferty, said that was a hallmark of someone who did not intentionally collect the illegal images. According to the complaint, Johnson admitted to investigators that he regularly visited adult pornographic web sites, a fact that he tried to hide from his wife by deleting content from the phones.
Johnson is facing two counts of possession of child pornography. A $250,000 bond was set and a preliminary hearing was scheduled.
Another oddity is that the investigation was triggered by an anonymous letter from someone claiming to have had an "on and off" affair with Johnson---not through the remote internet monitoring by authorities that usually trips up offenders.
The letter writer indicated she had spotted on Johnson's phone inappropriate text messages from what she believed to be former or current students. "This man needs to be investigated," the writer concluded.
Johnson admitted to having the affair. The 56 year-old woman was questioned but denied having written the letter, saying she believed it was written by a student.
Johnson denied having any inappropriate relationships with students.
