Baby Rescued; Father Arrested in Mt. Pleasant

Mt. Pleasant---A tense situation involving a baby was safely diffused early Saturday morning.

Police responded to the 2000 blk. of Frankie Place after receiving a frantic call from a woman who said her husband was going to kill her. According to a news release from Mt. Pleasant police, officers learned that the woman had escaped the family's apartment with an older child, but that a newborn baby was stil inside, with the man refusing to come out. 

Barricading himself inside the apartment with couch sections, the man could be seen holding a knife to the baby's throat, saying he was going to kill the child.

Eventually, officers pushed their way in while others gained access to the apartment through a second story patio door. 

The 29 year-old man was tased, disarmed and taken into custody. The baby was rescued.
