Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Car vs. Bicycle Accident on Highway 32

(WGTD)---A bicyclist was hit by a car around 6 o’clock Tuesday morning on Highway 32---between Highway 11 and Chicory Road---in Mount Pleasant.  According to a news release---when Mount Pleasant officers arrived they found an unconscious man and his bicycle on the southbound shoulder of the road. The bicyclist---reportedly from Racine--- was struck from behind by the southbound motorist who then called 9-1-1 and waited at the scene for emergency services. The motorist was not injured in this crash. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital---then---taken by Flight for Life to a Milwaukee hospital where he is being treated for life threatening injuries. The bicyclist was wearing reflective clothing---and ---a bike helmet. The bike’s rear and front lights were active. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in this crash. A witness at the scene provided officers a statement.

 During the investigation---southbound Highway 32 was blocked for approximately 3 hours at Larson Street.  This crash is actively being investigated by the Mount Pleasant Police Department and the State Highway Patrol – Accident reconstruction unit. No citations have been issued at this time.
