Big Public Pool for Racine, Thanks to SC Johnson

The SC Johnson Company made another BIG splash in its hometown of Racine Thursday. The company announced a $6.5 million dollar donation to build a huge outdoor community aquatic center at Pritchard Park on Ohio Street.

The centerpiece will be two separate swimming pools – a lap pool and an activity pool – that have almost 15,000 total square feet of water surface. Special pool features include large water slides, a water play structure, a rope course, water spray feature, and a zero-depth pool for young children. There will also be a place to take swimming lessons and water safety training courses---as well as a place to host parties.

There will also be picnic areas---with shaded tables---a concession stand---and---basketball hoops.

If approved by the County Board---construction is set to start this fall---and---should be up-and-running for next summer.

The Racine Family YMCA will manage the facility.

Racine County Executive Jonathan Delagrave, who was part of the announcement that held at the county complex in Ives Grove, had indicated about a year ago that he had wanted to develop the park with additional recreational opportunities for youth.

The park is owned by the county, but is within the city limits of Racine.
