Bond Boosted, New Charges For DV Suspect Who Allegedly Ignored Order

Sept. 9, 2020 5:35p

(WGTD)---A Kenosha man who was convicted of injuring a woman in a domestic violence case in 2014 then charged again last month in connection with injuries to the same woman was back in court Wednesday on new charges.

34-year-old Nicholas Mercier had been ordered by Court Commissioner Larry Keating last month to stay away from the woman.

On Tuesday, Pleasant Prairie police found Mercier and the 29-year-old together again in a room at a Pleasant Prairie hotel. Authorities said Mercier tried to jump out of a window while the woman initially tried to hide from police by ducking into the bathroom.

Bond for Mercier on new charges of criminal damage and bail jumping was set Wednesday at $15,000. "This court takes very seriously not following court orders," Keating said. Mercier's original bond was $3,000.

The 29-year-old woman had been reported missing over the weekend by her family.

According to the prosecutor, her mother caught up with her, but then she refused to be taken to a hospital and bolted.

At last report the woman was sitting in jail on a probation violation.
