(WGTD)---The two Republicans who are facing off Aug. 11th for their party’s nomination for Racine County Sheriff both have plenty of law enforcement experience.
Racine Alderman Henry Perez has a lengthy resume that includes service as a police officer, deputy sheriff and a school resource officer—none of it, however, is with the Racine County Sheriff’s Office.
Cary Madrigal, on the other hand, was hired by the department 25 years ago and has risen through the ranks to her current post as captain.

Perez outlines several changes he'd like to see if elected, including a review of operations in the jail in response to complaints from relatives of some of those who've been incarcerated.
One issue in the campaign has become a ten-day suspension Madrigal received last year for mishandling some internal allegations that involved a sheriff’s deputy who was later convicted of sex-related charges and sent to prison. Madrigal says she’s learned from her mistakes.
The winner of the primary will face a Democrat in the general election. The winner in November will succeed Christopher Schmaling who is retiring.
