Rep. Nedweski Awarded Top Honors by an Arm of the American Cancer Society

Sept. 16, 2026 8:30p

(WGTD)---The American Cancer Society's nonpartisan advocacy affiliate has given its top award to State Representative Amanda Nedweski of Pleasant Prairie.

Nedweski was a key supporter of Gail's Law which requires health insurance plans and Medicaid in Wisconsin to fully cover medically necessary supplemental breast screenings and diagnostic exams without any out-of-pocket costs for patients. The law is named in honor of Gail Zeamer, a Wisconsin woman and advocate who died of breast cancer after routine mammograms failed to detect her illness due to dense breast tissue.

The National Distinguished Advocacy Award from the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network was presented to Nedweski at an event in Washington Wednesday. According to a news release, the advocacy group presents the annual award to select lawmakers who demonstrate outstanding leadership in advancing cancer-related public policy.
