Ceremony Marks Start of Foxconn Vertical Construction in Mt. Pleasant

(WGTD)---The walls are going up on Foxconn’s first permanent building in Mt. Pleasant. And that fact was noted in an on-site event Thursday that featured the lifting-in-place of a pre-cast panel that had attached to it a large American flag and a state flag.

Speakers, including Racine County Economic Development Corp. Director Jennie Trick, noted that the milestone comes less than a year after Mt. Pleasant was revealed as the Taiwanese company's choice for its large LCD screen manufacturing and research site. "This is an amazing day," she said.

Racine County Executive Jonathan Delagrave, village trustees, a couple dozen construction workers and a vice-president of Gilbane, the general contractor, were on hand.

The first building, which will serve multiple purposes, is to be completed by winter.

Then in the second quarter of next year, construction is to begin on the first building to serve as a production facility.

Foxconn is expected to produce various sizes of liquid crystal display screens.

Production of television screens, including trouble-shooting and repair, is already underway in a leased facility near I-94 and Highway 20.
