Charges Filed in Drug Death; Defendant May Have Trolled for Drug-Dependent Women Through His Medical Transport Job

Kenosha---A 62 year old man has been charged with dumping the body of a woman who overdosed on heroin after having gone to his apartment for drugs and sex.

Thomas Rutchik is facing charges of hiding a corpse and obstructing.

According to the criminal complaint, the investigation into the death of 34 year-old Rhea Gattone led police to question Rutchik. He initially denied having had any contact with the victim in the days leading up to her death last year, although he admitted to knowing her through apparent mutual participation in drug counseling.

Over the next few months, however, police developed information contrary to what Rutchik told them.

In a second interview that occurred just last week, Rutchik broke down and gave a much different story, claiming that the two had gone to his apartment, and that she had died in her sleep after using heroin.

The complaint details Rutchik's story of how he loaded the body into his vehicle and drove around looking for a place to dump it. He eventually left it in an alley near 13th Ave. and 31st St.

The complaint includes some additional troubling information. It quotes a former roommate of Rutchik as saying that Rutchik, who worked as a driver for a medical transportation company, often times would hit on female drug users that he transported to and from a "methadone clinic." The roommate claims that Rutchik took five ofthem to his apartment for sex and drugs.

The owner of the firm confirms that Rutchik had worked for her company.
