Charges Filed in Racine Bus Crash Against A Woman Who's Awaiting Trial in a Fatal Crash

Sept. 4, 2025 11:15p; Updated 9-6

(WGTD)---Bond for a 20 year-old Racine woman who was charged in connection with a city bus crash that injured 11 was set Friday at $500,000.

The criminal complaint alleges that Shamya Anderson was speeding and driving recklessly before her Nissan SUV crossed the centerline, sideswiped a jeep and slammed into the bus.

Six people on the bus suffered injuries of varying degrees, as did three passengers in Anderson's Rogue and the driver in the Jeep. None of the injuries were life-threatening.

At the time of the crash, Anderson was out of jail on bond awaiting trial on charges that she hit and killed a man who was crossing a street in Racine last December. For that case, Anderson was charged with hit and run and homicide by vehicle—use of a controlled substance.

She was released on a signature bond in February.

According to online court records, Anderson’s case is stalled because the public defender’s office has yet to appoint an attorney.

In the latest criminal complaint, Anderson is facing 29 counts, including driving without a license, reckless injury and bail jumping.
