Close Call for Crossbow-Carrying Suspect

Aug. 23, 2019 8:25p

(WGTD)---A malfunctioning gun may have been the only thing that prevented a domestic violence suspect from being shot by police.

A criminal complaint that was filed Wednesday against 43-year-old Brad Londre details just how close it was.

Racine police responding to a call on Erie Street came across a man in an apartment stairwell aiming a loaded crossbow at officers. Officer Richard Stettner fired his service weapon. The shot missed its mark, and then the gun jammed.

Londre was eventually taken into custody after discarding his weapon.

Londre’s girlfriend said she’d been beaten by Londre, who purportedly becomes violent after drinking and using drugs.

Londre, who has a lengthy record, was charged with endangering safety, battery and false imprisonment.

Bond was set at $25,000.
