(WGTD)---A close call for a Racine family of 7 early Sunday morning. Their lives were likely saved by a working smoke alarm. The smoke alarm went off just after 4:30 Sunday morning---9-1-1 was called---and fire crews arrived to the home at 3212 Fox Drive within 3 minutes---and found a fire in the basement ceiling. The fire was extinguished before it could spread to the rest of the house. The Red Cross arranged temporary shelter for the family. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. There was an estimated $20,000 in damage to the home and possessions.
