(WGTD)---Nearly 80 inmates and five employees at the Kenosha County Detention Center near the airport and at the Pre-Trial facility in the Public Safety Building have tested positive for COVID-19 in a round of testing conducted this week by the Wisconsin National Guard.
The affected inmates have been placed into isolation dorms while the employees are in quarantine, according to a news release from the sheriff's dept. The release doesn't say whether anyone is showing symptoms.
The mass testing was part of an ongoing mitigation effort that included reducing the inmate population through expanded use of electronic monitoring, eliminating face-to-face conferencing between inmates and attorneys, providing inmates with masks and performing preventative cleaning throughout the day.
About 250 employees and 420 inmates were screened this week.
