(WGTD)---The driver who struck a semi and was killed while fleeing a traffic stop in Somers Thursday morning is a 27-year-old Milwaukee man who was on parole.
The identity of the driver wasn't immediately released.
According to a Kenosha County Sheriff's Department news release, the traffic stop was prompted when the driver almost hit a squad car just after 7.
The deputy effected the traffic stop without incident on Highway 'E' near UW-Parkside, but then the driver sped off while the deputy returned momentarily to his squad car.
A few seconds later, the driver ran a red light at Green Bay Rd and slammed into the semi.
Investigators recovered from the debris field a gun, crack cocaine and marijuana. Also, the driver had in his possession a "substantial" amount of cash, according to a news release from the sheriff's department.
