Racine---A freak accident Saturday trapped three people in their home for a time, injured a tenant and caused extensive damage. According to a news release from the fire department, tenants at 1650 Grand had been in the process of replacing a fuel pump from a vehicle. When a rain storm broke out, the tenants scrambled to move the car's fuel tank inside. One person slipped, causing gas from the tank to spill into the building's basement, where it came in contact with an ignition source, causing an explosion that sparked a heavy fire. A neighbor using an aluminum ladder rescued a baby and two men--ages 23 and 18--from a second floor apartment. A 50 year-old tenant suffered non-critical burns. The fire--which caused extensive damage--displaced a total of six tenants.
