(WGTD)---Foxconn handed out another $34 million worth of contracts to a half-dozen firms for site work related to the construction of the company’s second building on its Mt. Pleasant campus.
Thursday's announcement—from Adam Jelen, an executive from Gilbane, the general contractor—came on site and in front of reporters and cameras. "We are actually standing on the building pad for the advanced display technology facilities which is super, super exciting," he said.
Whether manufacturing would ever take place at Foxconn in Mt. Pleasant was called into question earlier this year by some conflicting statements from Foxconn officials. But construction on the building that’s expected to become home to the manufacture of liquid crystal display screens is to begin almost immediately.
Jelen said the subcontractors announced Thursday will be building roads and installing utilities. They were identified as Giles Engineering of Waukesha, Staff Electric of Menominee Falls, Hoffman Construction of Black River Falls, A.W. Oakes of Racine and Payne and Dolan of Waukesha.
Jelen was flanked at the announcement by County Exec Jonathan Delagrave and Mt. Pleasant Village President Dave DeGroot. Representatives of the subcontractors stood behind them.
