Foxconn's Gou Meets with President Trump and Governor Evers

Foxconn CEO Terry Gou met with President Donald Trump (pictured together at last year's Mount Pleasant Foxconn groundbreaking) Wednesday to discuss the company’s ever-changing Wisconsin project. According to the Nikkei Asian Review---one of the world’s largest financial newspapers---Gou told President Trump that the Mount Pleasant project remains on track.  Foxconn confirmed the meeting saying only that Gou and Trump discussed “the latest updates and positive progress” of the Mount Pleasant project, among other things. The meeting comes on the heels of Foxconn asking Governor Evers to change the contract it has in place with the state. Now---Governor Evers plans to meet with Gou Thursday afternoon. It will be their first meeting. It brings the two together at a time when Foxconn’s Wisconsin plans seem pretty fluid.  The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that the two will meet at Mitchell International Airport, according to people familiar with the plans.  The current plan makes more than $4 billion dollars in state and local tax credits available to Foxconn IF it invests $9 billion dollars AND hires 13,000 people. But, Foxconn has reduced the size of the display screen factory it plans to build and Governor Evers thinks fewer people will be hired. Even more questions arose when Gou announced last month that he is running to be president of Taiwan. (Photo credit: forbes.com)
