Funding Plan for KFD "Super Station" Receives Preliminary Approval

Kenosha---The Plan Commission has endorsed Mayor John Antaramian’s plan to borrow money from the federal government to build a $4.5 million dollar fire “super station.”

The new station—tentatively slated to replace the former Bain Elementary School at 52nd St. and 22nd Ave.—would mean the closure and consolidation of two other fire houses.

The loan would be paid back over a 20-year period with the use of Community Development Block Grant funds from the federal government.

Although the Plan Commission vote was unanimous Thursday night, Commissioner Jan Michalski indicated that he may change his vote once the matter hits the city council floor. He says many of his constituents are unhappy with the proposed closure of the fire station that's within his district at 22nd Ave. and Roosevelt Road.
