Gateway and S-C Johnson Go to the White House

Representatives of Gateway Technical College and Racine-based S-C Johnson were at the White House to highlight the school’s innovative boot camp program.

The occasion was a conference designed to showcase best practices at the nation’s community colleges.

Over the past four years, S-C Johnson has donated $2.5 million dollars to help finance boot camps at Gateway. They offer a condensed curriculum covering several high-demand subject areas.

The conference was hosted by Jill Biden, the vice-president’s wife.

Attendees included college presidents, policymakers, elected officials, business leaders, researchers and students.

Representing Gateway was school president Bryan Albrecht while S-C Johnson was represented by former Racine County Executive Jim Ladwig, who now serves as the company's Global Affairs Director.

In addition to boot camps, Albrecht also talked about Gateway’s new Promise program for high school students. It conditionally guarantees access to Gateway programs, no matter what the financial wherewithal of the student.
