Gifford Elementary School Students to be 'Picked Up'

Racine---A ride in a squad car is normally not a coveted thing. But 10 students at Gifford Elementary School who are to be 'picked up' Wednesday have nothing to fear.

The ten have been identified as the top raffle ticket sellers for a recently-concluded school fundraiser. And their reward is a ride to school in a marked squad car, courtesy of Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling. At an intermediate stop at O & H Bakery, the students will be treated to breakfast with Schmaling and members of his staff.

The annual fundraiser conducted by the school's PTA raised $27,000 this year. The money is normally used for such things as field trips, classroom events, anti-bullying preserntations and family fun nights.
