Goodwill To Expand in Mt. Pleasant; Racine Council Ok's Fischer Expansion

Mt. Pleasant---Goodwill Manufacturing is expanding by acquiring an existing spec building near I-94 and Highway 20 and building an addition that'll nearly double its size. According to a news release from the Racine County Economic Development Corp., the company will use the new space for its light assembly, packaging and inventory managing operations. Goodwill will continue to occupy its current location in the Renaissance Business Park. But the release says that building will be converted into a retail distribution center.

The Racine City Council has agreed to allow a machine shop to expand on city-owned parkland. Despite 90 minutes' worth of sometimes passionate debate during a public hearing, the Wednesday night vote was unanimous. Fischer U-S-A had threatened to move its operation elsewhere if the city wouldn't agree to sell it less than an acre of Pierce Woods Park. The company's planned 10,000 sq. ft. addition will allow it to increase its workforce from 65 to 85 employees.
