I-94 Driver Tries to Elude Deputies by Jumping From a Bridge

A driver that led a Kenosha County Sheriff’s deputy on a short chase down I-94 Tuesday evening crashed his sports car, then tried to get away by jumping from a bridge.

It’s not clear whether the 24 year-old man knew the extent of the drop. The 25-foot fall-- off of the Highway C overpass-- left him with severe injuries. He’s being treated at a hospital in Milwaukee.

According to a news release, the deputy had wanted to stop the Nissan 350Z for an illegal temporary registration.

Instead, the driver accelerated, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour, before losing control and striking a median wall.

While an 18 year-old passenger remained in the vehicle, the driver got out and ran just before making his fateful plunge.

The release said that a vehicle traveling below on Highway ‘C’ had to swerve to avoid hitting him.

The driver is facing a slew of charges, including drunk driving, second offense; hit and run and fleeing.

The southbound lanes of the interstate were closed for about three hours Tuesday night.
