Kenosha County Treasurer Leads State Task Force on Home Ownership

Mar. 5, 2020 1:45p

(WGTD)---Kenosha County Treasurer Teri Jacobson has been appointed to chair a state task force on home ownership.

She'll lead a panel called the "Treasurers' Homeowners Task Force," a new panel created by state Treasurer Sarah Godlewski.

The bottom line of the committee appears to be preventing home foreclosures and tax delinquencies, something that affects the bottom lines of governmental units that rely on property tax revenue. But the panel is also expected to work to help first-time homeowners. According to a news release, the task force will work to help potential homebuyers understand the financial resources that they will need to own and then hang on to their homes.

For existing homeowners, the panel hopes to identify early warning signs of financial trouble that could lead to foreclosures.

Godlewski says there's been a decline in first-time home ownership in Wisconsin, while some homeowners, particularly seniors, have a hard time keeping their homes.
