Kenosha History Center Closed Because of Water Problems

September 16, 2019 11:45am

(WGTD)---The Kenosha History Center was closed this past weekend and will be closed this week due to water in the building from the recent heavy rains.

Chris Allen---the Center’s Executive Director---told WGTD that the problem is groundwater and rainwater that flows down the hill behind the History Center into the building at the level of the foundation and through the north wall.

At one point---there was 6-8 feet of water in the sub-basement and some water on the main exhibit floor---but----that has not reached nor threatened the automobiles in the Center’s collection.

The History Center recently had its roof re-done---so---Allen said absolutely no water came in through the roof---and---all of its archives are OK.

Allen could not say for sure when the Kenosha History Center would re-open.
