KUSD Dress Code Changes Given Preliminary Approval

The Kenosha School Board informally hammered out a few tentative changes to the district’s dress code Wednesday night.

Reaching consensus relatively quickly on a series of individual items that were brought up, board members decided to allow leggings and yoga pants. Sleeveless tops will be in, as long as shoulder straps are at least an inch wide. Dresses, skirts and shorts should fall to at least mid-thigh. Student I-D’s should be displayed at all times at middle and high school.

Any alleged violations of the dress code will be addressed privately. Although parents will be notified, violators won’t be sent home.

Just a handful of students were present for the 90-minute discussion.

Final approval is expected in the weeks ahead.

Board members had been under pressure to modify the dress code for months, finally deciding to tackle the matter earlier this year.
